Argentina: Massive demonstrations across the country

A protest march in Plaza de Mayo: tens of thousands gathered to celebrate the defeat of Milei, his plan, and his accomplices with the general strike.
This Saturday's massive mobilization must be the starting point for a cycle of protests and struggles capable of bringing down the perpetual adjustment agenda of big business, Milei and his accomplices.
This Saturday, across the country, the March of Anger encapsulated the growing social repudiation of the government and its agenda . It was an active rejection of an economic system that destroys lives and dismantles social bonds. It was hatred against official misogyny and homophobia. It was the hope that struggle offers, in clear opposition to the resignation espoused by Peronism.
Tens of thousands of people filled Plaza de Mayo and dozens of cities across the country. They marched, sang, shouted, and vowed to continue. Called by hundreds of organizations and leading figures in culture, human rights, feminism , diversity, and politics, it charted a course: the defeat of Milei, his plan, and his accomplices through the general strike.
The great mobilization must therefore be the starting point of a cycle of protests and struggles capable of bringing down the agenda of perpetual adjustment of the ruling party, big business and their accomplices.
The path forward involves, first and foremost, strengthening the coordination that emerged during the preparation of this call for proposals . As we mentioned, there are hundreds of organizations across the country. This coordination took place in every city and province. It can and should be extended over time, strengthened, and made permanent.
Making this perspective a reality is essential to surround with support and solidarity each of the many daily struggles , abandoned to their fate by traditional bureaucratic leadership. These are struggles against company closures and layoffs; against wage cuts imposed by capitalists at every level and in every sector; and against attempts at labor market deregulation.
But also against the sexist violence and homophobia that persist under the cover of the misogynistic discourse deployed by the ruling party and Peronist leaders such as Santiago Cúneo. Also against the extractive agenda, pushed by the national government and also by Macri supporters, Peronists, and provincial governments of various political stripes.
There are many arguments. There are many battles. Fighting them together increases the chances of victory.
Strengthening each struggle by surrounding it with solidarity and support is essential to growing resistance from below . This is necessary to spread and amplify the social rebellion seen in the streets on August 6th against the government's austerity and surrender agenda.
Coordinating this resistance, expanding it , and making it as massive as possible is the way to strengthen the prospect of a general political strike against the government and its plan . That is, the prospect of a major national struggle where the working class paralyzes economic activity while hundreds of thousands take to the streets and highways across the country to deliver a powerful blow to those in power.
After Saturday's massive mobilization, this coordinated and organized resistance is a huge advantage in the fight to end the bureaucratic truce maintained by the union leadership. It's about forcing the CGT and the CTA to break the complicit passivity that allows Milei's advance.
The agenda already seems to be setting the stage for the next battle. The recently announced 2027 Budget proposal launches another attack against the disability community . Javier Milei's rabid cruelty is further compounded by an affront to the poorest segment of the population, affecting the automatic increase in the Universal Child Allowance (AUH). This violent austerity measure, ordered from Washington, is directed against the working majority, already severely impacted by the crisis.
The real challenge is for the anger that spilled into the streets this Saturday to persist in coordination and support for every ongoing struggle . It must solidify into democratic self-organization from below to confront each attack, overcoming the conservative obstacle posed by union and social bureaucracies. It must unite into a resistance that paves the way to defeat perpetual austerity now and in the streets.
