Mexico calls for transparency over the deaths of ten nationals in U.S. immigration custody or operations. According to official figures, since January, Mexican authorities have recorded 169 ICE operations that resulted in the detention of 2,382 Mexican nationals. Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente added that Mexico has issued thirteen diplomatic notes to the U.S. government protesting the treatment of migrants and reaffirming its commitment to defending their rights. At least twelve people have died in U.S. immigration detention centers since January, when President Trump began his second term. “We are defending our nationals, we are defending their rights. We do not agree with some of the actions that have been taken,” said De la Fuente. The Foreign Ministry also reported that 116,320 migrants have been repatriated to Mexico so far this year, with 93,153 receiving consular assistance. Human rights groups and international observers have condemned the Trump administration’s renewed crackdown on migrants, including the detention of minors and widespread deportations. The policies have reignited concerns about systemic discrimination and the erosion of democratic norms within U.S. immigration enforcement. https://www.telesurenglish.net/mexico-demands-accountability-for-deaths-of-ten-nationals-in-u-s-immigration-custody/ Back |
